Forensic Pathologist Associate

As a key member of the Medical Examiner's Office, the Associate Medical Examiner is responsible for conducting thorough investigations into deaths to ascertain their causes and manners. This role encompasses performing autopsies, conducting external examinations, verifying the identity of deceased individuals, and reviewing relevant medical histories. The Associate Medical Examiner will also interpret various laboratory tests and histological slides, provide expert testimony in legal settings, and engage in public health committees as time permits.
Responsibilities
- Execute postmortem examinations in accordance with established protocols.
- Document findings in detailed autopsy reports and issue preliminary cause of death determinations when possible.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to investigations and evidence.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and other agencies on cases.
- Offer expert testimony as required in court proceedings.
- Conduct site visits for death investigations as necessary.
- Capture digital documentation of findings.
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of departmental goals and objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Examiner.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a valid MD/DO license in Washington and possess certification from the American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology. Candidates should also be certified or eligible for certification in forensic pathology, with a commitment to maintain such certification. A valid driver's license in the state of residency is required.
Knowledge and Skills
Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of death investigation protocols, forensic pathology practices, and report writing techniques. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration with colleagues, law enforcement, and the public.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $14,624 to $21,205 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
