Overview:

This role involves executing both standard and complex laboratory tasks, which include specimen processing, conducting tests on patient samples, calculating and reporting results, performing quality control measures, and managing laboratory instruments and equipment. Additionally, the position may involve phlebotomy and other patient-related responsibilities, along with other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits proficiency in the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Conducts all routine and complex laboratory procedures specific to the assigned section, considering age or sex-specific values.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment, making minor repairs or notifying Bio-med as necessary.
  • Cross-trains in other laboratory sections as required.
  • Ensures adherence to the laboratory's quality control program.
  • Calculates, enters, and verifies laboratory procedure results.
  • Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively.
  • Documents and communicates critical laboratory values obtained.
  • Processes patient specimens, ensuring proper collection, handling, and distribution, particularly mindful of minimal pediatric specimen volumes when necessary.
  • Engages in the assessment, development, and implementation of new or revised testing procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the specific needs of the patient population served by the department.
  • Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.
  • Adheres to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Completes all required compliance and regulatory tasks, following all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by CLIA regulations.
  • No prior experience required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program accredited by NAACLS or other recognized organizations.
  • One year of approved clinical laboratory experience is required, including rotations through Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.
  • Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS is mandatory.
  • Must maintain current certification if it has an expiration date.
  • State Licensure is required in Louisiana.
  • New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible, completing Board Certification within one year of hire (Louisiana excluded).
