Clinical Laboratory Scientist II

Overview:
This role is responsible for executing both standard and complex laboratory tasks, which include specimen processing, testing of patient samples, result calculation and reporting, quality control execution, instrument operation and maintenance, and may involve phlebotomy and other patient-related duties, along with additional responsibilities as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits proficiency in the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Self-Leadership, Leadership of Others, or Leadership of Leaders.
- Conducts all standard and complex laboratory tasks in the designated section, adhering to age or sex-specific values.
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment, performing minor repairs as necessary or coordinating with Bio-med for major issues.
- Participates in cross-training across various laboratory sections as required.
- Ensures compliance with the laboratory's quality control protocols.
- Calculates, enters, and verifies laboratory procedure results.
- Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively.
- Documents and communicates critical laboratory results promptly.
- Handles patient specimens with care, ensuring proper collection, processing, and distribution, particularly mindful of minimal pediatric specimen volumes when applicable.
- Engages in the assessment, development, and implementation of new or revised testing protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform patient care tasks in a manner that meets the specific developmental and population needs of the patients served.
- Adapts patient assessment and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.
- Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health consistently.
- Completes all mandatory compliance and regulatory tasks while adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
- Undertakes additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience that meets CLIA regulation 42CFR standards, including U.S. Military laboratory training courses of at least 50 weeks.
- No prior experience is necessary for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program accredited by NAACLS or other HHS-approved organizations. OR One year of recognized clinical laboratory experience, including a clinical rotation through Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S. or an accredited laboratory within the last five years.
- Must hold certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
- If holding a certification with an expiration date, it must be maintained and kept current.
- State Licensure is required in Louisiana.
- New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible (must complete Board Certification within one year of hire, Louisiana excluded).
