Position Overview:
The Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is a highly skilled nursing professional who, through extensive clinical experience, education, and supervised practice in patient care at the master's level, has developed specialized expertise in neonatal care.
The NNP will rotate through various units within the Catholic Health System, including Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).
Key Responsibilities:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Nursing is mandatory.
Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program in the relevant specialty is essential.
Must possess a valid New York State Registered Nurse license or be eligible for licensure in New York State, along with a current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner license.
NCC certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is required within six months of employment.
NRP Instructor certification is also required within six months of employment.
Annual credentialing documentation must be submitted to the facility.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in Neonatal Nursing is highly preferred.
Experience as a Nurse Practitioner is advantageous.
Maintains current knowledge of best practices in the specialty area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Exhibits advanced knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to operate independently in an advanced practice role.
Demonstrates clinical proficiency and comprehensive knowledge in the specialty area.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for patient assessment and management, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions, and implementing and evaluating care plans.
Collaborates effectively with attending physicians, primary nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver family-centered care.
The NNP is responsible for developing and applying specialty practice standards and research to enhance patient and family care quality.
Provides care to high-risk neonates based on the needs of the unit.
Fosters a collegial and collaborative atmosphere among all healthcare team members.
Demonstrates strong leadership, teaching, research, and communication abilities.
Takes responsibility and accountability for clinical decisions.
Utilizes problem-solving and decision-making skills effectively.
Coaches and mentors staff at their respective levels.
Assists in research and development of specialty-specific practice standards and communicates them to relevant staff.
Identifies issues, gathers data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions.
Seeks to enhance job performance through ongoing education.
Provides comprehensive care for both normal and high-risk newborns and their families.
Attends high-risk deliveries and provides appropriate care in the delivery room.
Collaborates with Neonatologists regarding all relevant history, physical findings, diagnostic and therapeutic treatments in a timely manner.
Documents all care and procedures accurately.
Communicates effectively with other mid-level providers, nursing staff, pediatricians, obstetricians, and support staff to ensure high-quality and continuous care.
Performs emergency neonatal resuscitation and stabilization of ill newborns in accordance with established guidelines.
Communicates with and counsels parents throughout their infant's hospital stay.
Conducts discharge assessments, arranges follow-up plans, and communicates these plans in discharge summaries.
Integrates legal, performance improvement, and ethical principles into newborn care practices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
The NNP is expected to work on a rotating schedule that includes nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Job performance will involve rotating coverage through the newborn nursery and NICU.
Work hours will adhere to the hospital's policies for per diem, part-time, or full-time employees.
