Position Overview

Job Title: Early Childhood Support Specialist

The role of an Early Childhood Support Specialist is to enhance the educational experience for young learners by undertaking various instructional and non-instructional responsibilities under the guidance of certified professionals, including teachers and therapists.

This position may involve providing individualized support to eligible preschool-aged children in various early learning environments, including preschools and childcare facilities. The work schedule is adaptable and will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the children served.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist children during arrival and departure times as necessary.
  2. Support students with personal care tasks, including bathroom assistance and feeding, while ensuring their comfort and safety.
  3. Prepare and manage instructional materials and equipment as directed by the supervising educator.
  4. Act promptly in emergencies, ensuring the safety of children until professional help arrives.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the classroom and related areas, adhering to health guidelines.
  6. Keep accurate attendance and data records as required, ensuring confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  7. Complete necessary billing processes for assigned children in a timely manner.
  8. Assist students in utilizing educational tools and technology for personalized learning.
  9. Communicate effectively with children and educational staff through various means.
  10. Supervise and engage with students during activities and drills, ensuring adherence to program standards.
  11. Implement reinforcement strategies for learning as directed by the supervising professional.
  12. Follow and apply Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under the guidance of certified staff, including behavioral management techniques.
  13. Participate in required training sessions to enhance job performance.
  14. Travel between assignments as necessary.
  15. Perform additional educational duties as assigned by the supervising educator.
Qualifications

1. An Associate degree or equivalent college credits (60) or a PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate is required.

2. Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.

3. Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid is advantageous.

4. Ability to collaborate effectively within an educational team.

5. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

6. Clear and distinct verbal communication abilities.

7. Capacity to prioritize the needs of students while following directives from educators.

8. Experience with preschool-aged children is preferred.

9. Reliable transportation is necessary.

Additional Requirements:

1. Clearances as required by law must be obtained prior to employment.

2. A completed School Personnel Health Record and TB Test must be submitted before the start date.

Working Conditions:

The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

1. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

2. Capability to interact with children at their level, including sitting on the floor.

3. Ability to navigate stairs and move quickly as needed.

4. Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

5. Ability to kneel, bend, and reach for educational materials.

6. Clear verbal communication skills are essential.

7. Adequate hearing and vision to perform job duties.
