Family Development Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Family Development Specialist to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive services to families and children residing in the Family Center area, with a focus on families with children aged birth to five years.
The Family Development Specialist will work respectfully with families in a strengths model approach, integrating themselves into the community and providing practical, emotional, and social support to families through home visits. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in child development, family relations, and social work, with excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities- Recruit new families for the program and provide comprehensive services to families and children residing in the Family Center area.
- Conduct home visits to provide practical, emotional, and social support to families, with a focus on child development, parent involvement, health services, nutrition, and family support services.
- Maintain accurate records and data using the AIU Data Safeguarding procedure, and enter data into Synergy and OCDEL data systems by monthly deadlines.
- Develop adult and child goals, and a family goal plan, and complete child assessments every 6 months (Ages & Stages).
- Facilitate, coordinate, and participate in weekly parent support and parent/child interaction groups, and encourage families to participate in groups and activities.
- Advocate with families to providers, school districts, Department of Public Welfare, Children Youth and Families, and other systems, and maintain relationships with service providers.
- Participate in community outreach events and pursue training and information that would serve families and the team.
- Bachelor's degree in education, child development, family relations, social work, guidance counseling, or a related field, and one year of experience working with infants/toddlers and families.
- Basic level expertise in current Microsoft Office products.
- Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, organizational, and recordkeeping skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Ability to track, evaluate, and interpret program data to ensure high-quality programs and services.
- Ability to travel.
