FRESENIUS MEDICAL CENTER

OBJECTIVE: Upholds the mission, vision, core values, and customer service principles of FMCNA. Complies with the FMCNA Compliance Program, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and policy standards.

Assists medical professionals in executing various interventional radiology operations. Responsible for the management and quality assurance of radiological apparatus in alignment with FMC policies, procedures, and training protocols. Aids in the inventory management and procurement of necessary supplies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares patients and the procedure environment for radiological interventions, ensuring compliance with FMCNA policies and applicable regulations.
  • Reviews specific procedure orders to ascertain required materials and supplies.
  • Organizes and stocks the procedure area with essential supplies and interventional tools before the procedure, and cleans the area post-procedure, including the sanitization of equipment.
  • Conducts necessary preparations for patient procedures and documents actions as required.
  • Communicates the procedure details to patients, addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Assists in patient preparation for surgical interventions through positioning and prepping.
  • Facilitates patient transfers and positioning, transporting patients to and from the procedure area.
  • Inputs patient information into the C-Arm system.
  • Acts as a scrub assistant, aiding the physician during interventional procedures and administering fluoroscopy to visualize blood flow in coronary arteries to assess for blockages, while maintaining sterile techniques as per established policies and regulations.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Prepares intravenous medications and labels them according to the Medication Labeling Policy in the Sterile Field Competency.
  • Processes x-ray images and archives them to comply with FMCNA policies for patient medical records and state regulations.
  • Delivers exceptional patient care by adhering to FMCNA quality standards and regulatory requirements, engaging in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) practices, including the use of FMCNA CQI tools.
  • Assists in the implementation of FMCNA quality objectives and facility-specific action plans to meet quality standards.
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of medical records, maintaining compliance with FMCNA policies and performing regular audits.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of the environment, ensuring all areas are sanitary and that equipment is in proper working order through daily inspections.
  • Recommends equipment replacements and repairs as necessary.
  • Facilitates the disposal of hazardous materials and soiled linens.
  • Efficiently organizes and utilizes supplies and equipment to minimize waste.
  • Participates in meetings with the Governing Body, assisting with agenda preparation and data collection.
  • Ensures effective communication with medical staff.
  • Engages in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • Collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure all necessary instruments and equipment are available.
  • Addresses physician inquiries within areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in the training and orientation of new staff on equipment usage.
  • Ensures accurate and timely patient billing by reviewing procedures, documenting equipment charges, and verifying coding accuracy.
  • Assists with inventory management, supply ordering, and restocking.
  • Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer, monitoring radiation badges and conducting training on radiation safety protocols.
  • Participates in regulatory and accreditation surveys, contributing to action plans to rectify identified deficiencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious materials may occur. Must be capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds and performing patient transfers and positioning for patients weighing up to 400 pounds. Must be able to stand in protective gear for extended periods.
  • 10% travel may be required.

SUPERVISION:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree preferred; Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
  • Must possess ARRT Certification and be a licensed Radiology Technician as per the Department of Health.
  • State licensing in radiology is required.
  • Interventional Radiology certification is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience is preferred. Candidates with ARRT Certifications and at least 1 year of experience will be considered.
  • Proficient knowledge of interventional equipment (including C-Arm and Ultrasound), procedures, and necessary materials/supplies for each procedure. Familiarity with sterile techniques is essential.
  • Experience with special procedures utilizing a C-Arm is required.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective equipment necessary for operating radiology systems.
  • Must successfully complete BLS certification.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining inventory is essential.
  • Proficient in computer usage and related software, including Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
