The role involves assisting medical professionals in conducting various interventional radiology procedures. The technologist is accountable for the operation and quality assurance of radiological equipment, adhering to FMC policies, procedures, and training protocols. Responsibilities also include managing inventory and supply orders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare patients and procedure rooms for radiological interventions in line with FMCNA policies and applicable regulations.
  • Review specific procedure orders to ascertain necessary materials and supplies.
  • Organize and stock procedure rooms and trays with required supplies and interventional tools prior to procedures, ensuring cleanliness post-procedure.
  • Conduct thorough preparations for patient procedures and document appropriately.
  • Communicate procedure details to patients, addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Assist in positioning and prepping patients for surgical interventions.
  • Facilitate patient transfers and ensure safe transportation to and from procedure areas.
  • Input patient information into the C-Arm system.
  • Act as a scrub assistant during interventional procedures, providing fluoroscopy support to enable physicians to assess coronary artery blood flow for potential blockages, while maintaining sterile techniques as per established protocols.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare intravenous medications, labeling them according to the Sterile Field Competency guidelines.
  • Process and archive x-ray images to comply with FMCNA policies for patient medical records.
  • Deliver exceptional patient care by aligning with FMCNA quality standards and regulatory requirements, engaging in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) practices.
  • Assist in the implementation of FMCNA quality objectives and specific action plans to meet quality benchmarks.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records, maintaining compliance with FMCNA policies and conducting regular audits.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring all areas are sanitary and that equipment is functional through daily inspections.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment replacement and repairs as necessary.
  • Assist in the proper disposal of hazardous materials and maintain cleanliness of linens and rugs.
  • Efficiently manage supplies and equipment to minimize waste.
  • Participate in meetings and assist with data gathering for the Governing Body.
  • Facilitate effective communication with physicians.
  • Engage in CQI meetings, reporting on designated topics.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to ensure all necessary instruments and equipment are available.
  • Address any physician concerns within the scope of responsibility.
  • Support the training and orientation of new staff on equipment usage.
  • Ensure accurate and timely patient billing by reviewing procedures and verifying coding accuracy.
  • Assist with inventory management, supply ordering, and restocking.
  • Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer, monitoring radiation badges and conducting safety training.
  • Participate in regulatory and accreditation surveys, addressing any identified deficiencies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious materials may occur. The ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, as well as perform patient transfers and positioning of patients weighing up to 400 pounds, is required. Standing in protective gear for 45-60 minutes is necessary.
  • Travel may be required.

SUPERVISION:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION:

  • A High School Diploma is required; an Associate's Degree is desirable, while a Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • ARRT Certification is mandatory, along with a Radiology Technician license from the Department of Health.
  • State licensing in radiology is required.
  • An Interventional Radiology certificate is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience is preferred. Candidates with ARRT Certifications and at least 1 year of experience will be considered.
  • Proficient knowledge of interventional equipment (including C-Arm and Ultrasound), procedures, and necessary materials/supplies.
  • Experience with special procedures utilizing a C-Arm is essential.
  • Understanding of universal precautions and personal protective equipment when operating radiology systems.
  • Successful completion of BLS certification is required.
  • Experience in inventory monitoring and management is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in computer use and related software, such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), is necessary.
