General Devices Co Inc is seeking a highly skilled Brake Press Technician to oversee our Brake Press division. The ideal candidate will be tasked with ensuring the precise operation of measuring instruments, fabricating sheet metal components, and delivering exceptional quality results. This position demands robust technical expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to thrive in a dynamic work environment. A minimum of 5 years of experience with Accupress machinery is required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Brake Press Technicians, providing mentorship, guidance, and training to minimize errors.
  • Prepare brake presses for operation by selecting appropriate tools, installing dies, and making necessary adjustments for accurate bending, angles, and dimensions.
  • Ensure adequate raw materials are available to complete production runs.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials to and from the brake press, with support for heavier items as needed.
  • Instruct team members on Accupress and/or Bystronic brake presses to meet customer specifications.
  • Crosstrain team members to ensure proficiency across various machines and customer projects.
  • Assess working tonnage requirements.
  • Understand different bending techniques (air bending, bottom bending, coining, etc.) and the tolerances associated with each punch and die.
  • Interpret blueprints or technical drawings to achieve precise bending outcomes.
  • Produce blanks, perform layouts, and comprehend bend allowances.
  • Utilize measuring tools such as calipers, measuring tapes, and gauges.
  • Inspect raw materials for defects that may affect the bending process.
  • Engage in quality control practices to guarantee products meet high standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and company policies.
  • Strictly follow all safety regulations and guidelines.
  • May operate other machinery in different departments as business needs dictate.
  • Daily: Ensure all tools, back gauges, and guides are cleaned with a dry cloth. Properly store tooling and rest the weight of the brake press on appropriate materials.
  • Weekly: Inspect and tighten loose machine components and clean control screens.
  • Monthly: Collaborate with Maintenance to check hydraulic oil levels, inspect for leaks, and clean pump motors. Remove and clean filters on vents and cooling fans.
  • Annually: Work with Maintenance to conduct annual preventive maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, providing clear direction and motivating team members to complete tasks accurately and on time.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to assist and learn from colleagues.
  • Proven reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Brake Press Technician with strong technical skills.
  • History of effectively leading and coaching team members.
  • Proficient in setting up jobs on an Accupress Brake machine and executing multiple bends in a single piece of metal.
  • Strong technical skills, including the use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with stamping presses and sheet metal fabrication methods.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods.
  • Intermediate computer skills are essential.
  • Good hand and arm mobility.
  • Able to lift and move heavy materials up to 50 pounds intermittently.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical certifications or an associate's degree are preferred.
