Job Summary:
The DC Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the outbound deliveries to stores within the service region, ensuring timely and budget-friendly deliveries. This role involves managing yard operations, coordinating backhaul programs, and providing leadership to the transportation team.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage carrier relationships and planning functions to ensure timely deliveries to stores while optimizing cube utilization; oversee inbound deliveries to guarantee on-time, on-cycle, and lead-time compliance; manage outbound deliveries to minimize expedites and communicate daily with carriers to ensure on-time compliance.
  • Manage transportation costs, including cost per truckload, cube per truckload, and cost per mile; support overall financial goals; fully utilize transportation assets to reduce freight costs whenever possible; audit invoices of carriers on a regular basis and review the general ledger for all charges related to transportation.
  • Drive customer service by developing a customer service team, managing customer service associates, and addressing store concerns from phone calls and Infodock.
  • Develop and report financial and operations metrics.
  • Maintain accurate operation of the yard, including dock, security, yard switchers, and pallet recycling.
Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to the DC General Manager I/II.
  • Direct supervision of 6 direct reports, accountable for personnel issues, including selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development of subordinates.
Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion, including walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions:
  • Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, be on-call at various times, and work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be open to relocation, as flexibility in this regard can translate into increased opportunities for advancement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Business, or Supply Chain.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software applications.
  • Extensive transportation background, including TMS intelligence, routing, P&L, and budgeting experience.
  • Previous change management experience.

  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
