ABOUT THE POSITION:
Afternoon Snack Coordinators operate during the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., contributing up to 2 hours per day (Monday - Friday) during the academic year. Individuals in these roles may have opportunities to work additional hours to cover for absent staff.
Under general supervision, this position involves preparing, setting up, and serving afternoon snacks at a school, while ensuring the kitchen remains clean and sanitary. Additional related tasks may be assigned as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare afternoon snacks by heating various food items according to established menus and guidelines.
- Set out beverages, fruits, vegetables, and condiments for service.
- Oversee and serve snacks to students, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
- Clean and store food service equipment and supplies appropriately.
- Adhere to safety and sanitation protocols during food preparation, serving, and storage.
- Compile counts of food items served and leftovers, inputting production data into the required system.
- Operate heating and refrigeration equipment safely, lighting pilots as necessary.
- Collaborate with site staff and volunteers to meet program requirements effectively.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
Some paid experience in food preparation and service is essential.
Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered.
CERTIFICATION:
Must possess and maintain a valid California Food Safety Certificate. New hires are required to obtain this certification within 90 days of appointment.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL DEMONSTRATE:
Knowledge of:
Proper use of basic kitchen equipment and tools; sanitation and safety methods for food handling, equipment, and preparation areas; and appropriate food and refrigeration temperatures.
Ability to:
Comprehend and communicate instructions in English, both spoken and written; read and interpret menus, recipes, and labels; assess the taste and appearance of food items; operate kitchen equipment; perform basic arithmetic; evaluate operational needs and order supplies as necessary; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively with various stakeholders; work independently without direct supervision; and utilize computer systems and related software efficiently.
