Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Care Transportation Technician - Paramedic to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our Ambulance Service, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical care and transportation services to veterans in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to on-site accidents and emergencies, providing basic and advanced life support procedures as needed.
  • Conduct patient triage and take/record vital signs, conducting thorough assessments of patient conditions and obtaining patient histories.
  • Administer Basic and Advanced Life Support Care, responding to and monitoring cardiac and defibrillation situations.
  • Operate emergency vehicles and equipment, including ambulances, extrication tools, and medical supplies.
  • Interpret and apply Ambulance Interpretive Guidelines, including airway obstruction and respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, and bleeding and shock.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and healthcare providers using communication equipment and techniques.
Requirements
  • Valid and current state-issued license/certification for Paramedic eligibility.
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) Certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Certification.
  • Valid and unrestricted state driver's license.
Working Conditions

This position involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients, as well as exposure to infection and contagious diseases. You may be required to spend prolonged periods in protective breathing apparatus and protective clothing during chemical, nuclear, biological, or hazardous materials incidents/exercises.
