Job Summary:

A Surgical Instrument Technician is responsible for the sterilization and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment in a hospital setting. The primary responsibility of this individual is to prepare surgical instruments for use, which involves cleaning, sterilization, inventory, and maintenance of the instrumentation. This role is overseen by the Lead Sterile Processing Technician and reports directly to the Perioperative Services Director.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Prepare surgical instruments for use
  • Inventory and maintain surgical instrumentation
  • Work effectively in a team environment to ensure efficient and safe operation of the surgical department

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience working with medical supplies, surgical instruments, and sterilization equipment
  • Surgical Tech Certificate preferred
  • CPR certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms
