Position Overview: The Histology Laboratory Specialist is responsible for the meticulous grossing and processing of histological specimens derived from surgical biopsies and small tissue samples. This role requires a keen attention to detail and operates under the guidance of experienced professionals including Pathologists' Assistants and Pathologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the integrity of specimens from the moment of arrival through the entire processing journey.
- Accurately accession and label specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Dictate comprehensive gross descriptions for each biopsy specimen, while dissecting and preparing tissues for cassettes as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Prepare dissected tissue specimens and appropriately place them into cassettes.
- Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and operational policies related to laboratory functions.
- Maintain established workload, quality, and safety standards.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records including Equipment Maintenance Logs, Filter Logs, and Bench Excerpts. Assist in the evaluation and reporting of new laboratory equipment and procedures.
Quality Assurance: Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance Procedures to uphold the highest standards of laboratory practice.
Work Environment: Ensure cleanliness and safety within the work area while performing related duties as necessary.
Qualifications: An Associate's Degree is required. A current license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histological Technician in New York State is essential, along with any specialized certifications as needed. Candidates should possess 0-1 years of relevant technical experience.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is between $43.23 and $52.64 per hour. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant.
