Job Summary

Northwell Health is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner. You will also be responsible for ensuring the quality of the specimens and maintaining the safety and comfort of patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical condition of the site to be used for blood collection and select the appropriate equipment for the chosen method of collection.
  • Draw blood from adult, pediatric, and infant patients and conduct appropriate specimen delivery to the laboratory.
  • Interpret and verify orders, including patient identification, and calculate the quantity needed for diagnostic studies.
  • Label specimens according to policy and follow approved standard precautions, including the use of aseptic techniques and protective gear.
  • Instruct patients regarding the collection of blood, urine, sputum, and stool specimens, as well as nasal swabs.
  • Process specimens to the proper area of the lab and identify and communicate problems to appropriate supervision.
  • Restock lab supplies and assess the type of blood work required for elective pre-op patients according to policy and requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred, plus specialized certifications as needed.

Additional Information
