Position OverviewWe are currently seeking candidates for two roles within our Midwest Regional Office: Supervising Senior Attorney and Senior Attorney. This office engages in all three of Earthjustice's program areas—climate, healthy communities, and lands and wildlife.
Our initiatives involve legal actions against projects such as pipelines and mining operations that threaten the environment and tribal rights, as well as advocating for clean air, soil, and water.
We focus on collaborating with communities throughout the Midwest, particularly in areas facing significant environmental challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee advocacy efforts before various governmental agencies and courts.
- Manage litigation processes from inception to resolution, collaborating with technical experts as necessary.
- Design and implement non-litigation advocacy strategies in partnership with legal and policy teams.
- Conduct thorough investigations and develop legal frameworks for advocacy or litigation that align with our objectives.
- Supervise the work of Associate Attorneys, Litigation Assistants, and Law Clerks.
- Foster relationships with co-counsel and a diverse array of clients and coalition partners.
- Collaborate effectively with various departments within Earthjustice.
- Act as a spokesperson for Earthjustice and its partners.
- Contribute to long-term planning and strategy development for the Midwest Regional Office.
- Engage actively in efforts to cultivate a diverse and inclusive workplace.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- For Senior Attorney: Minimum of six years of relevant litigation experience; for Supervising Senior Attorney: Minimum of eight years.
- Admitted or eligible for admission to the Illinois Bar.
- Proficient in environmental and administrative law.
- Strong communication skills for conveying legal and advocacy objectives.
- Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior staff.
- Awareness of diverse cultural perspectives and a commitment to inclusivity.
