Job Title: Phlebotomy Specialist
Job Description Summary: The primary responsibility of a Phlebotomy Specialist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities:

  • Experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
  • Updating patient information, collecting, and storing specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explaining in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understanding all physicians' orders.
  • Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  • Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Packaging specimens for transport and storing specimen samples according to required temperature.
  • Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling, and following different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
  • Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attending annual department trainings.
  • Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
