Job Summary

The San Diego State University Research Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nutrition Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our WIC Program, you will be responsible for providing nutrition education and counseling services to participants, determining eligibility, and creating care plans to meet their nutritional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nutrition education and counseling services to WIC participants, including those at high nutritional risk
  • Determine WIC program eligibility and provide direct client services
  • Create and develop care plans for participants, including counseling on nutritional needs for pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children
  • Prescribe and issue WIC food benefits to participants
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or related field
  • Knowledge of the WIC Program and community nutrition, with emphasis on maternal, infant, and child needs
  • Knowledge of breast feeding benefits, physiology, and procedures
  • Ability to interact and communicate clearly and effectively in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of participant, employee, and agency records

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, or English and Arabic, depending on location
  • Certification as a WIC Nutrition Assistant
