Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for executing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Services clinical practice scope. This role involves working under physician directives and encompasses duties primarily within neonatal and pediatric patient demographics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications through various delivery methods, including Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB) and Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI).
  • Conduct nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, perform CPR, and manage bag-mask ventilation.
  • Execute diagnostic cardiopulmonary assessments, pulmonary function tests, EKGs, and cardiac monitoring.
  • Ensure the correct setup, safety, and functionality of all equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
  • Adhere to all infection control standards during patient care delivery.
  • Understand pharmacological indications, dosages, and manage adverse drug reactions.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.


Qualifications

Education Requirements
  • Completion of an AMA-approved two-year Associate's Degree or equivalent program.
Experience Requirements
  • No prior experience required for entry-level positions.
  • For advanced roles, six months to one year of clinical experience post-graduation from a respiratory care program is necessary.
Licensure and Certification
  • North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License.
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to make informed clinical decisions based on patient age and condition.
  • Validation of skills and competencies relevant to the role.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Physical capability to perform duties, including carrying emergency equipment.
