Principal Systems Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
  • Requirements Development and Management: Spearhead or assist requirements development and management to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Subsystem and Component Performance Specifications: Develop and direct subsystem and component performance specifications by evaluating and deriving necessary requirements.
  • Requirements Verification and Compliance: Develop and maintain requirements verification and compliance and supporting artifacts to ensure system integrity.
  • Architecture Development: Direct and facilitate architecture development of assigned system, subsystems, and components to meet program requirements.
  • Interface Requirements and Design: Drive development and maintenance of interface requirements and interface design information for assigned sub-system, system, and components.
  • System Design Descriptions and Capability Assessments: Document concept design selections and generate System/Subsystem Design Descriptions (SSDDs) and capability assessments to inform design decisions.
  • Trade Studies and Decision-Making: Coordinate and facilitate formal decisions and trade studies to drive design and document results.
  • Cost, Schedule, and Risk Management: Support the actualization and monitoring of cost, schedule, and risk to ensure program success.
  • Systems Engineering Activities: Coordinate Systems Engineering activities to influence the design and support vehicle level Systems Engineering activities and program milestone reviews.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering and 6+ year's relevant experience.
  • Systems Engineering Experience: Systems engineering experience performing requirements evaluation, derivation, and allocation, and translating requirements to viable concepts design solutions within applicable constraints.
  • Architecture Development and Evaluation: Experience developing architecture concepts and evaluating alternatives to meet program requirements.
  • System Design and Trade Studies: Knowledge of how to balance system design considering system concept of operations (CONOPS), performance, constraints, and logistics concerns.
  • Trade Study Planning and Execution: Knowledge of how to plan, conduct, and document complex trade studies to inform design decisions.
  • System Design Descriptions and Capability Assessments: Knowledge of how to generate System/Subsystem Design Descriptions and capability assessments per the program statement of work.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent oral and written communication know-how and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Logical Architecture Experience: Logical architecture experience, including development of use cases.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including SysML methodology and tools like Cameo.
  • Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF): Familiarity with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
  • DOORS Requirements Management Tool: Experience with DOORS requirements management tool.
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP): Have and maintain INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification.
  • Guidance and Mentoring: Guidance and mentoring of younger engineers.
