Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a DSP II, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide routine and emergency care, treatment, and training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in various settings.
• Implement habilitation and rehabilitation programs, behavior management, crisis intervention, and treatment plans with individuals.
• Teach life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene to individuals.
• Participate in the development of individual treatment plans and observe individuals for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, or other conditions that warrant medical intervention.
• Report significant changes in individuals' physical condition or behavior and record information as appropriate.
• Provide assistance in transporting individuals on scheduled activities and in emergency situations, as needed.
• Administer first aid and attend to healthcare needs of individuals under the supervision of medical personnel.
• Evacuate individuals in the event of a fire, natural disaster, emergency situation, or drill.
• Prevent or manage aggressive behavior among individuals and administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in emergency interventions.
• Perform direct care and support services to individuals and may provide training/mentorship to new DSPs and/or volunteer to serve as a shift/team lead.

Requirements:
• Ability to speak and read English.
• Ability to make decisions and use good judgment when dealing with critical incidents.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation.
• Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics, good posture, and proper lifting techniques.
• Knowledge of individual care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs or to learn these through training.
• Ability to provide individual care, administer first aid, and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR).
• Ability to communicate effectively and train/mentor/coach others.
• Ability to work effectively with others and as a member of a team.
