Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Nurse II - Direct Care RN, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide routine level nursing care to individuals residing in a State Supported Living Center setting, including assessment, care, and treatment.
  • Evaluate and treat healthcare needs and/or issues, documenting and reporting as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with direct care staff, physicians, administration, and other nursing staff to ensure optimal care as part of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist with services provided by LVNs and Certified Medication Aides, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Participate in facility quality assurance/quality improvement initiatives and respond to emergency situations to ensure safety and care of individuals and staff.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures, health care laws and regulations, medical diagnoses and procedures, and community health and nursing care principles.
  • Ability to work independently and productively with all levels of staff, provide support and coaching to LVNs, CMAs, and DSPs, and make decisions and recommendations to SSLC leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications.
