Role Overview:

This role entails overseeing, mentoring, and guiding personnel within the Chattanooga T&D Substation Department. In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, this position will also encompass engineering tasks related to substations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of safety within the department.
  • Recruit individuals who align with the company's core values and departmental objectives.
  • Manage the internship program for the Chattanooga Substation.
  • Collaborate with the early careers recruiting team to enhance recruitment efforts at regional colleges and universities.
  • Coordinate team assignments and mentorship for department staff in collaboration with the substation department manager and project engineers to ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Evaluate employee performance and conduct development meetings, including performance appraisals and coaching sessions.
  • Work alongside Human Resources to create and monitor performance improvement plans for staff.
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Encourage a vibrant and inclusive employee-owner culture through effective team-building practices and conflict resolution.
  • Provide leadership through effective communication and empowerment of team members.
  • Advocate for staff by regularly engaging with them to understand their professional goals and providing guidance.
  • Build strong partnerships with regional teams and other departments.
  • Identify training needs and support the development of training programs.
  • Interpret organizational policies and goals to staff.
  • Approve timecards and manage billable hours.
  • Demonstrate creativity and sound judgment in problem-solving.
  • Lead initiatives within the Substation department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited program.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to apply extensive knowledge of principles and practices to diverse assignments.
  • Capability to devise innovative solutions to challenges.
  • Professional Engineering licensure is preferred.
  • Previous leadership or management experience is advantageous.
  • Consulting experience is a plus.
