Description
The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for executing fundamental accounting functions in alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves supporting the daily, monthly, and annual financial operations of the Finance Department, including oversight of grant management.
Key Responsibilities
The purpose of this job description is to provide a representative overview of the primary tasks and responsibilities expected from individuals in this role. The duties outlined are not exhaustive and may be subject to change with or without prior notice. Incumbents must be capable of fulfilling the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Prepares and reconciles payroll, which includes maintaining records, verifying hours worked, processing paychecks, and generating quarterly and year-end payroll reports.
- Handles accounts receivable tasks, including processing building rent and external billing.
- Manages accounts payable functions by verifying invoices for payment, posting payments, ensuring that expenditures are allocated to the correct accounts, and maintaining proper documentation.
- Monitors and processes reimbursements for County funds; reviews and manages County business-related reimbursements.
- Prepares daily deposit logs and related documentation; submits all collected revenue to the Treasurer.
- Conducts office supply and inventory management, processes incoming mail, and drafts necessary correspondence.
- Coordinates the reconciliation of monthly credit card statements, validates credit card receipts, and manages card-related activities.
- Oversees accounting functions related to grants, including tracking the status of each grant throughout its lifecycle and preparing fiscal reports for timely submission and review, ensuring adherence to grant guidelines.
- Maintains the general ledger, which includes preparing journal entries, conducting account analysis, and reconciling accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and County Financial Policies.
- Assists in the year-end preparation of W2s and 1099s.
- Supports external auditors by providing explanations and retrieving necessary supporting materials and procedures, as well as preparing any additional data as requested.
- Ensures confidentiality of non-public records while making available all data and information classified as public records by applicable laws.
- High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years of accounting or administrative experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalent.
- Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
