Position Overview:
The Composite Design Engineer at Kaman is tasked with the design and evaluation of components, tools, and assemblies, ensuring alignment with client specifications while operating under the guidance of the Engineering Manager with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop composite and metallic components and assemblies that adhere to client specifications.
Design the necessary manufacturing processes and tooling for the production of components and assemblies.
Generate and assess CAD models and technical drawings to articulate design specifications.
Implement principles of Advanced Product Quality Planning and Lean 6-Sigma methodologies to create optimal, manufacturable designs.
Assist in initial production phases and facilitate the transition to manufacturing.
Contribute to product validation efforts, which may encompass analysis, internal testing, or the use of external testing facilities.
Develop, execute, and analyze Finite Element Method (FEM) models utilizing Abaqus software, which may include linear, non-linear, static, or dynamic analyses.
Participate in Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review sessions, along with the preparation of associated documentation.
Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field is required. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
1-3 years of relevant engineering experience is advantageous.
Exceptional analytical and technical skills are essential.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and in a manufacturing context.
Capacity to translate analytical and theoretical concepts into practical, hands-on solutions.
Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, bills of materials, and related documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
Familiarity with GD&T as per ASME Y14.5 standards is required.
Experience with FEM techniques and software, particularly Abaqus, is preferred.
Proficiency in CAD software, with SolidWorks being highly desirable.
