Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Counselor to join our team at WestCare Foundation. As a Counselor, you will play a vital role in delivering cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to clients participating in our Substance Abuse program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients using required tools and develop individualized service plans.
  • Initiate and sustain client motivation to participate in treatment, utilizing techniques such as therapeutic relationships, individual counseling, and brief interventions.
  • Prepare monthly reports for WestCare and outside agencies, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
  • Conduct client drug tests and communicate with outside agencies regarding client non-compliance.
  • Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups on therapeutic community concepts, relapse prevention, motivation for treatment, and other essential topics.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with laws of confidentiality, as outlined in the Federal Register.
Requirements
  • Clinical certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) from the Illinois Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA), or equivalent licensure.
  • Two years of experience providing alcohol and substance abuse counseling services, with knowledge of offender populations, cultural differences, and therapeutic community concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to pass background checks, obtain and maintain DCFS CANTS clearance, and OIG LEIE clearance.
Working Conditions

The Counselor will work primarily in a professional setting, with occasional outdoor activities required.

  • Requires mobility and physical activity, including standing, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires talking, hearing, and seeing, with the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically and mentally abusive situations.
