Position Overview

The Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in steering and managing the technical coordination of engineering efforts for grid-scale projects, guiding them from the development phase through to construction. This role involves working on photovoltaic, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across North America, collaborating with various departments including Development, Engineering, and Pre-construction. The primary focus will be on providing development support, conducting preliminary engineering analyses, and overseeing project designs from initial concepts through to Issued for Construction (IFC).

Key Responsibilities

Development Engineering Support:

  • Lead and coordinate the design of preliminary collection systems, substations, and transmission, along with electrical and civil design foundations for assigned projects.
  • Facilitate preliminary engineering design activities, including geotechnical studies, lidar assessments, hydrology, and electrical design.
  • Participate in project reviews led by the Phase Leader, attending regular meetings related to project evaluations.
  • Act as the technical liaison with various teams, including Development, Permitting, Interconnection, Estimating, Procurement, Resource Assessment, and Project Management.
  • Manage external third-party engineering collaborations, ensuring alignment with EDF technical specifications and integrating lessons learned.
  • Support the EDF team in technology evaluations and equipment assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with EDF Development on permitting requirements to ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Assist EDF Developers by conducting site visits to support project development.

EPC Design Execution:

  • Provide technical support in the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for EPC contractors, ensuring a seamless transition from development to construction.
  • Coordinate engineering Requests for Information (RFIs) and deliverables at various design stages (30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC) with EPCs, utilities, ISOs, and off-takers to meet interconnection standards.
  • Oversee detailed engineering reviews with subject matter experts and maintain close collaboration with the construction team.

Additional Engineering Tasks:

  • Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost improvements.
  • Document lessons learned from project experiences.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Supervision Responsibilities: None.

Working Environment:

The role primarily involves office work (80% of the time), with the remaining 20% spent in the field, visiting potential and existing project sites, engaging with project team members, local partners, and industry representatives.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of photovoltaic, storage, and/or wind technologies is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in renewable energy projects is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and engineering principles necessary for creating safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective designs.
  • Proficiency in various Microsoft and engineering software, including AutoCAD, ETAP, and other power system applications.
  • Familiarity with photovoltaic modeling software is preferred (e.g., PVSyst, PVCase, System Advisory Model).

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $102,500 to $171,000.
