Aircraft Maintenance Specialist

As an A&P Technician (Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic), you will be engaged in comprehensive inspection tasks on spacecraft, which differ significantly from traditional aircraft maintenance. Your role will involve identifying necessary repairs and collaborating with engineering teams for corrective measures. Due to the experimental nature of these spacecraft, you will be contributing to the development of a maintenance manual as operations progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections and functional checks, which may extend over a month.
- Assist in defining maintenance manuals for vehicle systems and structures.
- Support the development of the spaceline GMM through hands-on knowledge.
- Participate in training program definitions, utilizing various mediums for effective knowledge transfer.
- Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks on space flight system vehicles.
- Inspect, dismantle, adjust, overhaul, repair, fabricate, remove, and install all aircraft components, including propulsion systems, avionics, fuel systems, and more.
- Execute machine tool work and composite repairs as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with GMM protocols when returning aircraft to service.
- Complete and sign work records accurately.
- Inspect parts and assemblies to validate your work.
Qualifications
- Valid FAA approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License) is required.
- Possession of a valid passport and ability to obtain a driver's license.
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures across various phases is essential.
- Preferred experience with rocket systems and associated propellants.
- Experience with life support systems is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel and be on-call is necessary.
- Ability to obtain an AOA badge is required.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 2 years of college education preferred.
- Certifications in aerospace, aviation, or automotive fields are beneficial.
- Graduation from a technical college or recognized apprenticeship is preferred.
- 1-2 years of line maintenance experience; 5 years is preferred.
- Experience with narrow body and/or business jet aircraft is a plus.
- Familiarity with composite aircraft is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to manage policies and procedures effectively.
- Capability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with composite modifications and system integrations is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
- Availability for all shifts, including overtime and weekends as needed.
- Ability to travel 25% or more of the time.
- Capability to stand for extended periods (minimum of 8 hours).
- Physical ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces for extended durations.
- Must be able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs without assistance.
