Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with patients in a therapeutic, respectful, and friendly manner, addressing various behaviors.
  • Provide consistent communication of reassurances and explanations to patients.
  • Modify nursing procedures to cater to the treatment needs of diverse patient populations.
  • Assist in the upkeep and management of specialized equipment and surgical instruments.
  • Safely position patients throughout their care.
  • Implement surgical asepsis and administer medications safely during procedures.
  • Prepare and sanitize operating room environments before and after surgical cases.
  • Uphold patient privacy rights at all times.
  • Be attentive to the needs of patients.
  • Set up for surgical procedures efficiently.
  • Take full responsibility for the care of instruments and equipment throughout all stages of procedures, including cleaning and processing.
  • Follow established protocols for steam sterilization diligently.
  • Understand the importance of chemical and biological monitoring of sterilization processes.
  • Accurately manage, label, and document specimens.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase.
  • Maintain composure and respond appropriately to patients in emergency or distressing situations.
  • Produce documentation that aligns with current standards, policies, and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate high motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Conduct lab testing in accordance with established lab policies and procedures.
  • Interpret test results and take appropriate actions based on findings.
  • Possess knowledge of the storage, care, and use of specific cartridges.
  • Conduct quality control testing monthly or with each new shipment proficiently.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance hospital environments and processes.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives within the facility.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital and clinic regulations in policy and procedure maintenance.
Working Conditions:
This role requires working in diverse settings, including medical offices, acute care facilities, operating rooms, and recovery areas, with potential off-site work and travel. Regular exposure to various patient conditions, including unpleasant sights, odors, noise, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases, is expected. Frequent interaction with co-workers, patients, vendors, and the public may involve individuals who are distressed or unwell.

Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily active, requiring walking, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. Long periods of standing may be necessary. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required to interact with computers and other facility operating systems. Auditory acuity is essential for effective communication with patients and the public.

Essential Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an operating room setting.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Integrity and honesty.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective time management and task prioritization skills.
  • Professional and courteous communication with co-workers, vendors, and others.
  • Punctuality and adherence to dress code standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as an Operating Room Technician.
