Additional Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse:

  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Ensures adherence to hospital and clinic regulations.

Specific Role of the OR Circulating Registered Nurse at Summit Surgical:

  • Position Summary: Focuses on promoting the physical and mental well-being of patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Effectively collaborates with patients, significant others, and healthcare providers while upholding professional nursing standards. Assesses the operating room for equipment functionality and readiness, procures supplies for individual cases, and ensures that all requirements of the surgical team are met. Monitors, positions, and assists patients throughout procedures.

Additional Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patients for procedures accurately and in accordance with policy.
  • Safely positions patients during care.
  • Maintains surgical asepsis and administers medications safely for all procedures.
  • Prepares and sanitizes operating room suites before and after surgical cases.
  • Capable of setting up for surgical procedures efficiently.
  • Ensures all necessary pre-operative information is available prior to patient surgery.
  • Accurately records, manages, and labels specimens.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least one (1) year of experience in the operating room is preferred.

Essential Qualifications for Registered Nurses:

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Kansas.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or willingness to obtain within three (3) months.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and completes annual education obligations.
  • Participates in the required annual education program.
  • Effectively interfaces with computer systems.
  • Quickly learns new concepts and procedures.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
  • Exhibits accuracy in all tasks.
  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes tasks and responsibilities appropriately.
  • Communicates professionally and courteously with colleagues, vendors, and other contacts.
  • Punctuality is essential.

Laboratory Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct lab testing in accordance with lab policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret test results and take appropriate actions based on findings.
  • Knowledge of storage, care, and use of specific cartridges.
  • Familiarity with quality control testing on a monthly basis or with each new shipment and proficiency test.
