POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery utilized in various projects, including but not limited to trucks, bulldozers, excavators, and other specialized equipment. This role requires a combination of practical skills and certifications that demonstrate proficiency in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. The position encompasses a range of responsibilities from basic maintenance tasks to complex repairs, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electronic systems on heavy machinery, including air brakes, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conducting routine maintenance, such as oil changes and hydraulic fluid replacements, in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Managing inventory of parts and supplies necessary for equipment upkeep.
  • Documenting service records and preparing cost estimates for repairs.
  • Overhauling and rebuilding engines and other critical components.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and equipment are in optimal condition.
  • Performing road tests on machinery to ensure functionality.
  • Executing preventive maintenance on intermodal shipping containers.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-7 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Diesel mechanic certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Welding certifications are advantageous but not essential.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Familiarity with standard practices, tools, and materials used in heavy equipment repair.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and hand tools for machinery servicing.
  • Ability to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues effectively.
  • Capable of interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with fellow technicians on repair needs.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to adhere to project-specific plans and procedures.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Proof of citizenship is required for employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Eligibility to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete OSHA HAZWOPER training, including passing a medical examination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work in various personal protective equipment while performing job functions in diverse environments.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Experience working in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions.
