POSITION SUMMARY:
The Heavy Equipment Technician I will be responsible for servicing, repairing, fueling, lubricating, and maintaining a range of heavy machinery and light power train systems utilized in various projects. This includes, but is not limited to, trucks, bulldozers, excavators, and other essential equipment. The role requires applying technical knowledge to diagnose and repair heating and air conditioning systems. While welding experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing various systems on heavy machinery, including mechanical and electronic controls, air brake systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conducting routine maintenance tasks, such as oil and hydraulic fluid changes, in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Managing inventory of parts and supplies necessary for equipment maintenance.
  • Documenting service records and preparing cost estimates for repairs.
  • Assisting in engine overhauls, replacements, and component rebuilds.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and ensuring tools and equipment are in good condition.
  • Performing road tests on equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Executing corrective and preventative maintenance on intermodal shipping containers.
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-7 years of experience in light power train systems, demonstrating proficiency with diagnostic tools. Experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair is preferred. Diesel mechanic certification is a plus.
  • Welding skills are preferred but not essential.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment for heavy machinery repair.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic and tuning equipment, welding tools, and hand tools for repairs.
  • Trained in the safe handling and disposal of refrigerants and system charging.
  • Adept at diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Ability to interpret manuals and schematics effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with other mechanics regarding repair needs.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to perform diverse job functions.
  • Ability to follow project-specific plans and procedures accurately.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Proof of citizenship is necessary as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete OSHA HAZWOPER training, including passing a medical exam for respirator use.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Capable of working in various personal protective equipment while performing tasks in diverse environments.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs independently.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Experience working in environments subject to varying weather conditions and temperature extremes.
