Job Summary

HORST ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO is seeking a highly skilled Machinist/Set-Up Operator to join our team. As a key member of our production cell, you will be responsible for ensuring the ultra-precision of a specific part family.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate pinch/peel grinders, milling machines, and laser markers to produce high-quality parts.
  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, and specifications to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Inspect materials to ensure they meet specifications and obtain bar stock or material from a staging area as needed.
  • Perform complex set-ups and assist other operators with set-up or production problems, providing training and support as required.
  • Make adjustments to machinery, load and edit programs, and obtain tooling, gages, and other equipment needed to complete set-ups.
  • Verify and record part counts, perform visual inspections, and dimensional verification using measuring instruments.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling, perform routine maintenance, and maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Pack and wash/preserve parts as needed, and move finished work to an assigned area.
  • Enter work performed in the database, document scrap, and notify supervisors of any issues.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment, with medical/aerospace experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to read and write comments, operation sheets/blueprints, and specifications.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to interact with associates from all departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods, walk long distances, and push/pull/carry/lift up to 50 lbs.
