Machinist/Set-Up Operator Job Description

The Machinist/Set-Up Operator will be part of a high-performance team in a production cell that includes pinch/peel grinding, milling, and laser marking operations. The primary focus will be on the ultra-precision of a specific part family. This role requires ensuring that all manufactured parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate pinch/peel grinders, milling machines, laser markers, and quality inspection equipment.
  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, and specifications to ensure accurate production.
  • Verify that materials meet specifications and obtain necessary materials from a staging area.
  • Perform complex set-ups and assist other operators with set-up or production issues, providing training as needed.
  • Make adjustments to machinery, load and edit programs, and obtain necessary tooling and equipment.
  • Ensure all manufactured parts meet quality standards, performing visual inspections and dimensional verification.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling as necessary and verify part counts.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, maintain fluid levels, and keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Return excess materials to the staging area and pack and preserve parts as needed.
  • Notify supervisors of parts shortages or machining issues.
  • Perform other machining and assembly operations as required.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment, with medical or aerospace experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, and specifications.
  • Swiss turn experience a plus, technical school training for CNC Machining also beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods and walk long distances.
  • Ability to push/pull/carry/lift up to 50 lbs.
