Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Security Attendant to join our team at the Hawaii State Department of Education. As a School Security Attendant, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors on school grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol school grounds during class, lunch period, and before and after school hours to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Observe and report on unusual student behavior, and discuss problems with students to encourage them to seek assistance and/or counseling.
  • Ensure the safe and orderly movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic in and around the school grounds.
  • Enforce school rules and regulations, and inspect and patrol playgrounds, bathrooms, assembly areas, cafeterias, and other facilities to identify safety and security hazards.
  • Direct unauthorized persons and drivers off school premises, and assist the school administration and staff with supervision and control at special student activities.
  • Provide assistance to teaching staff and others in handling overt disturbances, and inform school administrators and others of critical situations that may require police, fire, or other outside assistance.
Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and understand oral and written English, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of basic protective systems and emergency procedures.
Working Conditions

The School Security Attendant will work in a school setting, and may be required to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in emergency situations. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergency situations.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $2,563.02 per month for School Security Attendant I and $2,668.30 per month for School Security Attendant II. The Hawaii State Department of Education offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
