Phlebotomy Specialist

As a Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Technician at Mayo Clinic, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of blood samples. You will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional customer service. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will be essential in maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.
Responsibilities
- Obtain quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods and standard safety equipment.
- Work in multiple hospital campuses, including general patient care areas, pediatrics, emergency departments, intensive care units, and operating rooms.
- Accurately identify patients, label, handle, and transport specimens, as well as perform point-of-care testing.
- Utilize computer programs and systems to manage patient information and laboratory results.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate a positive, professional demeanor.
- Work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of a phlebotomy training program or 3 months of phlebotomy work experience required.
- National phlebotomy certification (e.g., NHA, ASCP) must be obtained within 14 months of hire date.
