Los Angeles, California, United States The Seed School of Los Angeles County Full time
About SEED

The mission of SEED Schools is to offer students a rigorous, college preparatory, tuition-free boarding school model that equips them for success in higher education and professional careers.

The SEED School of Los Angeles County (SEED LA) is California's inaugural urban public, college preparatory boarding school, and the fourth SEED institution nationwide.

Each academic year, SEED LA is building a ninth-grade cohort, aiming to serve students in Grades 9-11.

By the end of the school year, SEED LA will empower approximately 400 students in Grades 9-12 to realize their full potential through our comprehensive 24-hour learning environment.

Our collaboration with LA Metro presents a unique opportunity for students to enhance their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while participating in hands-on learning within the transportation and infrastructure sectors.

Our innovative model merges a rigorous academic curriculum with a supportive boarding program that nurtures the whole child.

This boarding school framework offers a holistic solution to the challenges faced by urban youth and serves as a prototype for future expansion across the nation.

All SEED students reside on campus from Sunday evenings to Friday afternoons.

Our model has demonstrated success:

over 90 percent of SEED graduates have gained acceptance to four-year colleges and universities nationwide, with over 60 percent remaining enrolled in college or having already obtained their degrees.

The effectiveness of the SEED model has been highlighted in various media outlets and publications, including 60 Minutes, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the documentary film, Waiting for Superman.

President Barack Obama has recognized SEED as "a true success story".

Position Overview

The SEED School of Los Angeles County is seeking a Visual Arts Instructor to become part of its educational team.

In our classrooms, students will explore a wide array of artistic mediums and techniques on a near-daily basis, engaging in projects that challenge their creativity and broaden their understanding of visual art as a potent form of expression and communication.

Students will enhance their technical abilities and aesthetic sensibilities while learning to critically assess and interpret visual works from diverse cultural and historical perspectives.

Our visual arts curriculum underscores the significance of grounding creative projects in robust conceptual frameworks, encouraging students to articulate their ideas through artist statements, presentations, and critiques.

Students will participate in daily practices that encompass both hands-on creation and reflective discussions, ensuring they are well-prepared for future academic and professional endeavors in the arts.

Moreover, in our visual arts classrooms, we prioritize student agency and encourage learners to take ownership of their artistic journey by engaging deeply with meaningful content and producing work that reflects their unique viewpoints.
