RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Safety Specialist is tasked with overseeing all facets of quality assurance in Growing Media and Mulch products at the facility level. This includes, but is not limited to: monitoring formulation processes and conducting tests; inspecting, testing, and approving incoming raw materials; and ensuring adherence to all established specifications and operational procedures.
The Specialist is also accountable for the facility's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) program, which encompasses OSHA, Oldcastle, and EPA regulations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and testing of product formulations
- Inspection, testing, and approval of incoming raw materials
- Adhering to all established specifications and processes
- Investigating and resolving customer quality complaints
- Administering and maintaining the EH&S program
- Regularly inspecting and observing facility equipment and activities to ensure safe practices
- Preparing and submitting all necessary reports to Oldcastle or relevant agencies
- Maintaining compliance with EH&S regulations
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Preferred experience with laboratory and testing procedures
- Familiarity with safety programs and compliance
- Some experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude or experience with production processing equipment is preferred
- Some experience with EH&S programs/agencies
- Interest in Horticulture or Gardening is advantageous
- Understanding of Environmental, Health, & Safety programs and regulations
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 65 lbs, utilizing team lifting or equipment as necessary
- Good housekeeping skills are essential
- Ability to influence thinking, manage resistance and objections, and motivate change
- Limited travel may be required
- High school diploma required; Associate's Degree preferred
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and operational manuals, following step-by-step guidelines
- Basic computer skills are necessary
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Capable of enduring intermittent bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching
- Standing for extended periods
- Able to work under extreme conditions such as high or low temperatures
