Role Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that our products adhere to established Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) standards. Key tasks encompass conducting safety and quality assessments, performing daily sampling, preparing samples, executing various analytical tests, documenting results, and communicating findings to relevant stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess strong skills, demonstrate punctuality, and thrive in a collaborative environment with like-minded professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand and adhere to the essential components of our Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification, including but not limited to:
    • Management Commitment
    • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
    • Food Defense
    • Allergen Management
    • Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
    • Product Traceability
    • Product Hold and Release Procedures
    • Recall Management
    • Crisis Management
    • Document Control and Record Keeping
  • Follow best practices in laboratory operations, documentation, manufacturing, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain and operate standard laboratory instruments according to established Work Instructions (WIs).
    • Utilize and care for laboratory equipment such as pH meters, qPCR systems, thermocyclers, density meters, centrifuges, pipettors, microscopes, and other analytical tools.
    • Conduct instrument checks and calibrations as necessary to ensure precision in results.
  • Keep a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Handle, clean, and sanitize glassware appropriately.
  • Participate in daily tasting panels.
  • Monitor production processes and equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and implement necessary adjustments.
    • Inspect, test, and sample materials or products for quality assurance.
    • Discuss inspection outcomes with responsible parties and recommend corrective measures.
    • Accurately analyze samples of work-in-progress and finished products, reporting any deviations from specifications.
    • Collect and prepare samples from various stages of production according to the testing schedule.
    • Conduct shelf-life and brite tank testing analyses on finished products.
  • Manage work-in-progress tanks as required and inform relevant personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory sample inventory and managing sample disposition.
  • Utilize Google Docs and Drive for data recording, interpretation, and trend analysis.
  • Engage in departmental and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Support other departments during downtime as needed.
Food Safety and Quality Assurance Duties
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) within the production facility and promote compliance among team members.
  • Comprehend SQF policies regarding pest control, visitor management, allergen control, and sanitation practices.
  • Exhibit awareness of management's commitment to SQF and strive towards enhancing food safety and quality.
  • Report any food quality and safety issues to the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure proper documentation and resolution through the CAPA process.

  • Willingness to travel for training and onboarding as necessary.
  • Flexible availability for shifts, including extended hours and weekends based on operational needs.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor's degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in food or beverage production is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Unpaid 30-minute lunch break; two paid 15-minute breaks.
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals with appropriate safety measures in place.
  • Regularly required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs consistently.
  • Able to work in loud and warm environments for extended periods.
