Role Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that our products adhere to established Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) standards. Key tasks involve conducting safety and quality evaluations, daily sampling, sample preparation, performing various analytical tests, documenting results, and communicating findings to relevant stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional skills, demonstrate punctuality, and thrive in a collaborative environment with like-minded professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Familiarity with essential components of our Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification, including but not limited to:
    • Management Commitment
    • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
    • Food Defense
    • Allergen Management
    • Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
    • Product Traceability
    • Product Hold and Release
    • Recall Procedures
    • Crisis Management
    • Document Control and Record Keeping
  • Adhere to best practices in laboratory procedures, documentation, manufacturing, and safety protocols.
  • Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment in accordance with Work Instructions (WIs).
    • Utilize and care for laboratory instruments including pH meters, qPCR machines, thermocyclers, density meters, centrifuges, pipettors, microscopes, and other essential laboratory tools.
    • Conduct instrument checks and calibrations to ensure precise results.
  • Keep a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Handle, clean, and sanitize glassware appropriately.
  • Participate in daily product tasting panels.
  • Monitor production processes and equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and implement necessary adjustments.
    • Inspect, test, and sample materials or products for potential hazards, defects, and deviations from standards.
    • Discuss inspection outcomes with responsible parties and recommend corrective measures.
    • Accurately assess work-in-progress and finished product samples, reporting any deviations from specifications.
    • Collect and prepare samples from various stages of production according to the testing schedule.
    • Conduct shelf-life and brite tank testing analyses on finished products.
  • Assist in managing lab sample and shelf-life inventory.
  • Utilize Google Docs and Drive for data recording, interpretation, and trend analysis.
  • Engage in departmental and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Support other departments during downtime as needed.
Food Safety and Quality Assurance Duties
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) while in the production area and promote compliance among team members.
  • Understand SQF policies regarding pest control, visitor management, allergen control, and sanitation practices.
  • Exhibit awareness of management's commitment to SQF and contribute to food safety and quality initiatives.
  • Report any food quality and safety issues to the Quality Assurance Manager to facilitate corrective action and continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Meticulous attention to detail, quality, cleanliness, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Able to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in food or beverage production is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Unpaid 30-minute lunch break; two paid 15-minute breaks.
  • Work safely with chemicals with appropriate safety measures in place.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and walking on uneven surfaces regularly.
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs consistently.
  • Ability to work in loud and warm environments for extended periods.
