Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landscape Services Crew Leader to join our team at the University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our facilities services team, you will be responsible for supervising a crew of gardeners and groundskeepers in the performance of landscaping tasks, ensuring the timely completion of written and oral instructions, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of a crew of gardeners and groundskeepers in the performance of landscaping tasks.
  • Maintain the landscape to university standards by safely operating landscape equipment and ensuring the accuracy of employee attendance records.
  • Ensure the timely completion of written and oral instructions, assign work to the crew, and complete routine paperwork, including performance evaluations.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task, assure crew members follow safety rules and wear appropriate PPE, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Apply mulch, soil amendments, fertilizers, and pesticides to the landscape as instructed, and clean, maintain, and operate university vehicles and equipment.
  • Safely operate landscaping equipment and vehicles, and have the ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Four years of experience in landscape maintenance or construction.
  • One year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in the care of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
  • Experience using power equipment and hand tools used in gardening work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in all types of adverse conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or formal coursework in horticulture or a related field.
  • Technical training in landscaping or horticulture, including the concepts and theory of organic management programs.
  • Knowledge of the use of native plants in the landscape and experience applying this knowledge in day-to-day operations.
  • Pesticide Applicators License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
