Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Consultant

The role of the Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Consultant is vital in the provision of comprehensive pharmacotherapy for adult patients dealing with gastrointestinal, sarcoma, and head and neck malignancies in an outpatient care environment.

About the Institution:
The institution is a renowned academic medical center, recognized for its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and patient care. The pharmacy department plays a crucial role in delivering acute care pharmacy services to a diverse patient population, including medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric cases.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary oncology care team to educate, monitor, and support patients throughout their oral anticancer treatment.
2. Serve as a resource for the disease team regarding both oral and infusion anticancer therapies, including toxicity management and appropriate dosing.
3. Conduct direct and telemedicine-based consultations to provide education and initiate oncologic therapies.
4. Monitor the initiation and side effects of oncologic therapies, perform medication reconciliation, and communicate effectively with Specialty Pharmacies.
5. Provide educational support to pharmacy residents, students, and other healthcare practitioners, while also serving as a preceptor for accredited pharmacy practice programs.
6. Engage in research activities and participate in hospital and departmental committees to assist with formulary management and policy development.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland.
- Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in a Pharm. D. degree or B.S. with one year of experience.
- Completion of a PGY1 residency and a PGY2 specialty residency in oncology, with a focus on hematologic malignancies preferred.
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification required within two years of employment.
- Intravenous (IV) Certification within 90 days of hire, unless exempted.
- BLS certification required within one year of hire.
