School Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Del Valle ISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide routine and emergency care for sick and injured students, following district policy and procedures.
- Coordinate the administration of medications to students, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
- Provide health education to individuals and groups, promoting healthy behaviors and practices.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to identify and address student health needs.
- Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, school crisis team, and other committees as needed.
- Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration, following district policy and procedures.
- Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Education Agency, and district policy, making referrals as necessary.
- Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate updated health records on all students.
- Keep the nurse's office clean and sanitary.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
- Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- State certified to conduct vision, hearing, spinal, and type 2 diabetes screening, or within 6 months of employment.
- Appropriate CPR certification.
- Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check, with a non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by the employee.
- One (1) year nursing experience, preferably in community health or pediatrics.
The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and the need to maintain emotional control under stress. The position requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, walking, pushing, and pulling, as well as regular lifting of loads up to and including 50 pounds. The School Nurse may be exposed to biological hazards, pathogens, and communicable diseases, and may require feeding, diapering, and caring for handicapped students. Frequent district-wide travel may be required.
The School Nurse will be responsible for supervising and training nurse aide(s) and/or LVN(s) in clinic procedures and responsibilities, according to district policy. The position requires maintaining certification in CPR, vision, hearing, and spinal screening, as well as participating in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events to improve job performance.
The School Nurse will be expected to model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and to maintain confidentiality. The position requires daily attendance and punctuality at work, as well as following established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
