Position Grade: NE-7
Position Status: Regular, Full Time
POSITION SUMMARYThe Healthcare Support Specialist delivers essential technical and supportive care to patients in alignment with the directives of the attending Physician and the established protocols of the clinic.
The role requires adherence to the mission, purpose, and values upheld by the Colusa Indian Community Council.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare patients for medical evaluations by recording vital signs and medical history;
- Observe and document the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients, ensuring a comprehensive response to their care plan;
- Assist the physician in coordinating and communicating with other healthcare professionals involved in patient care;
- Provide proficient support services, including specimen collection, CLIA waived tests, blood draws, and immunizations as instructed by the physician;
- Act as a translator for the medical provider when necessary;
- Document services rendered in the medical record and complete required billing and reporting systems;
- Distribute educational materials to patients and their families as directed by the physician;
- Maintain medical records in accordance with policy, procedure, and regulatory standards, including laboratory and referral logs, medication samples, and immunization logs;
- Conduct scheduled quality assurance audits as assigned;
- Cross-train to perform medical receptionist duties;
- Assist the Management Team in developing operational policies and procedures;
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure patient-focused services that comply with all regulatory and licensing standards;
- Update patient charts to include medication, allergies, and preventative care records;
- Uphold confidentiality standards at all times, signing a confidentiality agreement upon employment;
- Perform additional duties as required by the role.
- Experience: A minimum of six (6) months of experience in a similar environment;
- Licensing:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited institution;
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Remain seated for extended periods while using a computer and/or telephone;
- Assist patients weighing up to two hundred (200) pounds with mobility;
- Stand and walk for at least 50% of the shift;
- Possess good manual dexterity along with visual and auditory acuity.
