Clinical Laboratory Manager

As a Clinical Laboratory Manager at North Oaks Medical Center, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Laboratory by managing and coordinating the people and processes for blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, molecular testing, serology, urinalysis, anatomical pathology, and customer support.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the administrative, fiscal, and technical activities of assigned Laboratory sections to assure the efficient operation of the clinical laboratory.
- Ensure adequate staff are scheduled for assigned areas to provide services efficiently including staff flexing according to volume demands.
- Manage recruitment, selection, training/orientation, competency assessment, assignment, guidance and supervision of all assigned staff.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of organization and department policies and procedures.
- Ensure assigned Laboratory sections are in continuous readiness for regulating agency inspections and accreditation from agencies such as the Joint Commission (JC) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
- Plan for use of space, purchases of new/replacement equipment, and use of outside services.
- Plan, develop, implement, and oversee section-specific strategies, workflows, and improvement tactics to effectively provide high quality services while efficiently using resources.
- Identify strategies and lead tactics towards unit cost reduction, quality improvement and overall lab productivity growth in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Laboratory leadership team.
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Regulatory Analyst to develop and implement metrics to ensure operations are meeting service and quality objectives.
- Determine needs, identify costs, and develop justification as part of providing input to developing operating and capital budgets for assigned areas.
- Conduct final review and approve payroll for personnel in the assigned Laboratory sections.
- Monitor and ensure completion of actions determined for response, resolution, and/or mitigation of complaints, incidents, accidents and/or occurrence reports.
- Act as liaison between staff and department management team, hospital administration and medical staff as needed to promote efficient operations that meet their service needs.
- Distribute all pertinent information to staff as received from laboratory management and other hospital departments.
- Maintain appropriate working knowledge of hospital/department software and other digital systems.
- Attend and participate in meetings (administrative, departmental, in-service, etc.) as necessary.
- Represent the department at conferences and working committees as directed.
- Maintain professional growth and development through literature, seminars, conferences and professional affiliations.
- Conducts evaluations on employees for their professional growth.
- Serve as a backup to the Laboratory Director and Pretesting Lab Manager.
- Assist in all aspects of emergency response.
- May be required to work other shifts, weekends and holidays as assigned.
- Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
