Position Overview:

The Praxair Gas Operations Support and Development (OSD) team is seeking a Water Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide specialized technical assistance to our industrial gas production facilities across the United States. The OSD team is dedicated to delivering strategic engineering support in water management, catalyst oversight, and process engineering for production sites nationwide. The selected candidate will primarily operate in the Houston area and report directly to the OSD Manager.

This role involves collaboration with the Linde Gas water program, addressing all industrial operating units throughout the US. Key responsibilities include:
  1. Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for boilers, cooling towers, and pretreatment systems;
  2. Selecting and optimizing water treatment programs;
  3. Identifying opportunities for water productivity enhancements;
  4. Designing and executing minor improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leverage water process expertise, data analysis tools, and modeling techniques to identify performance improvement opportunities and resolve issues in operating facilities.
  • Identify, justify, and implement improvement projects while validating their outcomes.
  • Monitor boiler and cooling water KPIs, addressing performance deficiencies to ensure the mechanical integrity of fixed assets.
  • Engage in regular supplier meetings to manage contracts, ensure system performance, identify savings opportunities, and enhance system reliability.
  • Support new project initiatives, including steam quality requirements, steam system design, incoming and make-up water quality, proposed treatment programs, and automation controls.
  • Lead Management of Change processes for supplier transitions, treatment program modifications, and updates to treatment automation.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of water treatment program requirements and common corrosion/failure mechanisms specific to industrial gas operations.
  • Familiarity with water purification plants, unit operations, waste heat recovery systems, and direct-fired boilers.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a process engineering role within operations or engineering in the industrial gas, chemicals, refining/petrochemical, or steam generation sectors.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and optimizing plant performance through data/statistical analysis and process modeling.
  • Experience or knowledge in the operation of hydrogen plants, electrolyzers, and air separation units.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to lead or contribute to root cause analysis and incident methodologies.
  • Experience with process modeling using Unisim and/or Promax is advantageous.
  • Effective communication skills across various departments, including operations, engineering, business development, and R&D.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 25% of the time.
