Job Summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Water Resources Project Engineer to join their Washington D.C. team. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in design, permitting, construction support, and inspection tasks within the water resources discipline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various design, permitting, construction support, and inspection tasks
  • Demonstrate proficiency in drainage design, grading, erosion and sediment control design, stormwater management design, hydrology, and hydraulic modeling
  • Develop Post Construction Stormwater Management plans and details
  • Complete permit applications for state and local agencies
  • Utilize general engineering principles and practices
  • Prepare technical reports of design approach, methodology, and summary of results
  • Develop construction cost estimates, quantity take offs, prepare specifications, and package construction documents for bid
  • Coordinate with utility companies as needed to accommodate designs
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline with the established quality
Requirements
  • Proficient in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and communication skills
  • Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 4-10 years of experience in Water Resources or related engineering discipline
  • Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Method
  • Storm drain design, stormwater management design, and erosion and sediment control design experience
  • Technical writing experience for report development
  • Contract document preparation experience including plans, specifications, and cost estimates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Water resource engineering design in District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia
  • Proficiency in discipline specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferred
  • 2-D modeling experience using SWMM or comparable model
Working Conditions

Work can be performed on a hybrid schedule following a training period – a combination of office and remote work. In-Office work will be in the Washington, DC location. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
