Position Overview:
The Practical Nursing Specialist operates under the direct oversight of the Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor.

Role Summary:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) is integral to the healthcare team, executing responsibilities within the domains of patient assessment, health education, and restorative care, all while adhering to the directives of registered nurses (RNs) and other licensed healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
The PNS is expected to:
- Provide essential clinical support and technical assistance to the interdisciplinary team.
- Function within the professional scope as defined by the New York State Department of Education.
- Manage a demanding workload with precision and accuracy.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service skills when interacting with residents, families, staff, and healthcare professionals.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time role, typically requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime as needed.

Qualifications:
1. Valid New York State PNS license is mandatory.
2. Current certifications in Infection Control and Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.
3. A minimum of one year of experience in medical/surgical nursing or long-term care settings is preferred.
4. Demonstrated understanding of clinical risk management is essential.
5. Consistent professional demeanor and meticulous attention to detail are required.
6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities, are necessary for effective collaboration with patients and healthcare teams.
7. Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems is advantageous.

Essential Functions:
The Practical Nursing Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Utilizing nursing expertise to implement preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for assigned patients, ensuring positive health outcomes.
- Assisting with clinical tests and procedures, ensuring safe operation of medical equipment.
- Administering medications as per physician orders, documenting all actions, and reporting any adverse reactions.
- Observing and documenting changes in patient conditions, performing treatments with aseptic techniques.
- Supporting personal care activities, including bathing and toileting, while adhering to infection control protocols.
- Monitoring vital signs and overall patient health, documenting findings as required.
- Coordinating communication among patients, families, staff, and physicians to ensure comprehensive care.
- Demonstrating proficiency in clinical procedures such as catheterization, suctioning, and dressing changes.
- Managing pharmacy-related tasks, including medication orders and inventory management.
