Job Overview

Protecht is transforming the refund experience, aiming to make every transaction refundable. Our core strength is our proprietary Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) refund protection platform, which delivers extensive distribution and an exceptional digital purchasing experience for insurance providers, event coordinators, booking platforms, ticketing systems, and their customers. Our e-commerce solution is integrated into millions of shopping carts each month, and we are looking for a skilled engineer to enhance our high-performing team.

We are in search of a Staff Engineer with substantial experience in developing high-performance, scalable applications using Python and Django, alongside a proven track record in architecting and designing large-scale eCommerce systems. As a pivotal leader within our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in defining technical strategies and constructing enterprise SaaS products that third-party developers can integrate into high-traffic e-commerce platforms. You should be someone who can elevate standards and motivate everyone, including leadership, to strive for excellence. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture and development of APIs and services that support applications and websites with extensive user bases, processing millions of events on a daily basis.
  • Drive ongoing enhancements of the Protecht platform, spearheading feature definition, refactoring, and optimization efforts.
  • Oversee and engage in code reviews, establishing high standards and best practices throughout the development team.
  • Manage the release process, ensuring efficient and timely deployment of new features with minimal downtime and seamless integration into existing systems.
  • Actively participate in agile workflows, including sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation for the Protecht platform, ensuring clarity and accessibility for both internal teams and external developers.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to affiliate developers for seamless integration of Protecht's products into their systems.
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth in design principles and practical programming techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in designing high-volume APIs and microservices, with a preference for candidates in leadership or senior roles.
  • Expertise in Python development with significant experience in substantial consumer or enterprise SaaS products.
  • In-depth knowledge of Django and the Django Ninja framework, along with familiarity with FastAPI, Flask, or similar Python frameworks.
  • Advanced proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB).
  • Understanding of queuing and streaming technologies (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS, Kinesis, etc.).
  • Experience with payment systems such as Stripe, Braintree, CyberSource, FreedomPay, and ledger-based transaction systems.
  • Strong grasp of scalability and performance optimization in distributed systems, with experience in multi-tiered caching and CDNs.
  • Proficiency in serverless AWS technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, Fargate, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of testing, profiling, and debugging methodologies.
  • Experience in architecting and developing multi-region global solutions, considering localization, regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PCI, and SOC), and privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to take end-to-end code ownership, from requirement analysis to deployment, including documentation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and provide technical support to external developers.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • This position allows for remote work, with travel to Protecht hubs as necessary.
