Job Overview

The Food Service Operations Supervisor will oversee and actively participate in the management of various food service areas. Responsibilities include planning and supervising food preparation and service, estimating and ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory in accordance with quality standards. This role also involves record-keeping and reporting, as well as supervising staff and students in designated areas.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in determining material and labor requirements for assigned areas and planning menus.
  2. Supervise and participate in the production and service of food and beverages, ensuring adherence to quality and quantity standards.
  3. Oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of assigned areas and equipment, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
  4. Order food, beverages, and supplies, ensuring accuracy and proper storage, while conducting regular inventory checks.
  5. Maintain detailed records of food service operations, including employee hours and customer counts.
  6. Supervise cash handling procedures and ensure compliance with university policies.
  7. Develop procedures to optimize operating costs in collaboration with unit management.
  8. Address customer complaints and provide effective solutions.
  9. Train and supervise staff, including hiring and assigning tasks.
  10. Act as the unit manager in the absence of the primary manager and provide weekend coverage as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in food service within various settings, or a diploma from a recognized institution in culinary arts or related fields may substitute for experience.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Understanding of food preparation and service methods in high-volume environments.
  • Knowledge of food quality standards and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to manage cash handling processes effectively.
  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills for training and instruction.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with a diverse workforce.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to manage resources efficiently and anticipate operational challenges.

Physical Demands

This position requires physical capabilities including lifting, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive tasks.

Work Schedule

Typical hours are from 7 AM to 3 PM with rotating weekends.
